Christy from Indonesia, Studying Medicine

I stay in a studio room, because of that you can tend to keep to yourself quite a lot, and I realised that a good way of connecting to the community is through the events that NCV holds. There are floor suppers, if you want something more casual, and there are trips to the Hunter valley, Wildlife parks and the Kiama blowhole which are all pretty fun.

Christy's Experience:

Hi my name is Christy, I am from Indonesia, I’m in second year Medicine and this is my first year at NCV. When I applied for NCV, what caught my eye was the flexibility of the meal plan. I go for the meal plan for lunch, as I have a lot of noon classes, and I would usually cook for myself for dinner. I applied with friends, so I kinda knew a few people here already, but when I first moved in my Senior Resident was very welcoming and he helped me a lot in understanding how NCV works and helped me in settling in.

So I stay in a studio, which is nice to have my own private space, and if I ever need a break, I usually go up to the roof terrace, which has really good views, especially during sunset, and there are also a few events held up there and barbecues as well. I stay in a studio room because you can tend to keep to yourself quite a lot, and I realised that a good way of connecting to the community is through the events that NCV holds. There are floor suppers, if you want something more casual, and there are trips to the Hunter Valley, wildlife parks and the Kiama blowhole, which are all pretty fun.

One of the big events NCV holds is Culture Night, and that is when people get to showcase their own cultures, food and music, and you get to see a lot of performances, dances. There has been Indian ones, Jamaican ones, and you get to sample a variety of food from a lot of different cultures.

I think when I leave NCV, the things that I will miss the most is definitely the community, the friends I never thought I would make here, from a range of different backgrounds and nationalities. And the view! The view from my room is definitely amazing!
