The Musical was a fantastic achievement by cast, crew, directors, producers

New College offers congratulations to everyone involved in the musical (performed May 20-23) – it was a wonderful reminder of the fact that in this place the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts.

Audiences were impressed by play '09. This year’s New College Students Association major production was quite an achievement when the scale of Kiss Me Kate and the purchasing of rights to produce it is taken into account. Impressively the play returned a modest surplus from sponsorship, tickets, merchandise, fundraising and shop sales. The whole production team put in a great effort and the hard work was rewarded by the audiences’ response.

The College thoroughly appreciates each individual’s efforts which contributed to making this year’s play such a success. While audiences laughed at the comedy on offer they were awestruck by the wonderful cast performances, set/props, costume, make up, technical and backstage crews, publicity, front of house, directing, producing, musical direction, orchestra etc.

Particularly noteworthy was: 1) the high quality musical direction, 2) the quality and complexity of the props and the sets, and 3) the large amount of work that backstage crew had to do with so many scene changes.

The College welcomed an alumni contingent each night and from all reports those ex-Collegian's present loved it! One Alumni member (who appeared in the College's first ever musical) said:

We attended the New College musical last Thursday and found it immensely entertaining. Please pass on our congratulations to those involved in its production and our encouragement for the future support of musical productions in College.

It was a great night out. Well done to everyone involved in the play in any way. Bravo!

Musical Director - Luke Iredale
