Amidst a night of terrific food and good conversation, NCV residents were treated to the insights of UNSW’s incoming Dean of Medicine, Professor Rodney Phillips.
The night started doubtfully – waiting on the western side of Anzac Parade in the New College Village foyer for the rain to slow. We eventually made it over the road to New College for our Autumn Formal Dinner; suits, cocktail and evening dresses…gumboots, raincoats and umbrellas in tow.
First up were drinks, mingling and meeting new people. Despite living at college for almost four months there are more people to meet in such a large community.
Entrées cleared, the brilliant musical talents of Mark Foo, one of our resident pianists, were put on show.
Professor Phillips was welcomed to the fore after mains and spoke of the leaping progression of medicine to the current day and of what modern practitioners can take from their predecessors. As an audience we were able to ask questions of the Professor, allowing for some very interesting discussion.
The night in all was a great success – a completely new experience for some, a favoured part of college life for others. With this as a precedent, the others in the year will surely be a hit.
