Meet the 2017 New College Alumni Scholarship Recipient, Mirren

Wednesday 14 June 2017

I am from Attunga, NSW, which is roughly seven hours North West of Sydney. The population of Attunga is about 500 people. This is my third year at New, so it’s fair to say I love it here. My favourite thing is the sense of community and family, which is great to have being so far away from my own. While at New I’ve directed the 2016 and 2017 New College theatrical productions and I was a member of the cast of revue and musical. I’ve had the opportunity to play soccer and...

The Jared Pritchard Memorial Scholarship is named in memory of a very talented and creative young man who lived at New College for four years, but who sadly passed away in 2010. It is awarded each year New Collegians in recognition of their ability to contribute to the creative and performing arts. Jared Pritchard Memorial Scholarship 2017 Recipient | Veronica Xu I’m from Wollongong and have lived there since I was born. I love the close proximity of New College to everything in Sydney...

I miss the farm and my family but I've definitely found a home-away-from-home in being at New College. College is a super easy environment in which one can make friends. In fact College O-week was more like "enforced friend-making week"....

Meet the 2017 Bursary Recipient, Jonathan

I was born in Sydney, but lived in a small country called Slovenia for roughly 18 years. Although we lived in Slovenia, we would visit Australia every few years, so I always felt like I had two homes. Because of that, Sydney felt both familiar and foreign at the same time, and moving here was that much more of a challenge. Leaving behind family and friends and dealing with a different culture and starting university was all together a big change. Living at New College was the best way to start...
