I was born in Sydney, but lived in a small country called Slovenia for roughly 18 years. Although we lived in Slovenia, we would visit Australia every few years, so I always felt like I had two homes. Because of that, Sydney felt both familiar and foreign at the same time, and moving here was that much more of a challenge. Leaving behind family and friends and dealing with a different culture and starting university was all together a big change.
Living at New College was the best way to start university life! Being a part of a lively and diverse community that was filled with people from all over the world made it easy to fit in. I particularly enjoyed its inclusive environment, and wide range of areas to get involved; everything from musicals and bands, to board games and sports.
I am in my third year studying a Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering alongside a Masters of Biomedical Engineering. I would ideally like to stay in Sydney working in Biomedical research.
Having financial support from New College was a great blessing, especially when I had just moved to Australia. It helped remove some financial pressure not just from me, but from my parents as well, allowing me to benefit more from the community and focus more on my studies. I greatly appreciate the support.
