Report: Men's and women's hockey teams take home gold in exhilarating final
A massive congratulations to the New College men's and women's hockey teams who brought home the trophies after last night’s exhilarating grand final. Dozens of Collegians showed up in New blue to support and cheer on our dedicated teams. RA Jacqui Willing shares a report:
What an exciting night we had last night! Down at Dave Phillips Oval, our girls brought home the hockey grand finals for the second year running with a stunning 3-0 finish against Basser. And then to bring it home, in an absolutely nail-biting and hard fought game, our boys also won (for the first time in many many years)!! They pulled it home 3-2 against arch nemesis Warrane.
A special shoutout must go to women's team Captain Hannah “Fira” Dunn who got the kit on and did an outstanding job in goals for both the girls AND boys teams!
By our count, we anticipate the girls will bring home the Inter-College Sporting Shield at Sports Ball this Saturday night (and the boys will place 3rd overall). Very, very exciting times and an absolutely brilliant way to wrap up our year of sport.
“The hockey grand finals were a spectacular finish to an incredible year in sport. The teams were on fire, playing like the absolute champions they are. The crowd was louder than ever and keen to cheer on their fellow collegians. The opposition was good but we were better. Winning the final sport of the year made all the hard work worth it, and myself and Mitch [male sports director] were prouder than ever of everyone that participated throughout the year.” - Zara “Chamma” Hoare, Female Sports Director
